Threshold Might Lose Wiki Entry PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 06 January 2009

I noticed this article while reading up on Raph Koster's blog. Apparently, the Wikiepdia article for Threshold MUD might be taken down because its accuracy cannot be verified and it might not be notible enough for a Wiki article. Now, you might remember, but I was playing Threshold a while back (really need to log back in again...), so it is certainly sad to hear that the game is running into these problems. I remember popping over to Wikipedia before deciding to give the game a try, so I certainly do not doubt that it could have some impact on advertising.

The problem seems to be that The MUD Connector isn't considered to be a viable resource and old MUDs like Threshold effectively rely on resources like TMC to verify that they're indeed genuine. Thus, this could have an impact on other significant MUDs as well.

Hopefully something can be done to get around this.

Will We see Android Netbooks? PDF  | Print |  E-mail

It recently came out that google's cell phone platform, Android, was up and running (unofficially) on an ASUS eeePC successfully. This has certainly led to further speculation that we might be seeing Android becomong more common, and more official, on netbooks. While Windows has still proven to be more successful on Netbooks over Linux, getting the backing of a name like Google could prove to help push the open soruce platform more into the spotlight.

As for my thoughts? I'm pretty ambivilant for now. I don't have any real experience with Android outside of fiddling with the SDK (although I hope to pick up a G1 in the near future), which isn't really enough to show me how it really functions. I wouldn't be surprised if it could translate to a small, portable computer pretty easily with a few tweaks. Personally, I have a hard time imagining I would favor it over an actual Linux distrobution, but for the public at large, it could prove to be a good plan. Hard to say!

Happy New Year PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Well, it is that time of year - uh, the New Years part, that is. This past year has been pretty interesting for me. I started it out in Japan, I found my favorite place in the world, came back to the United States to go through my last semester of college and graduated.

The market and the economy crashed. The presidential nominations were big throughout the year up until what has been considered a historic election.

Netbooks became quite a bit bigger. Smartphones started trying to be netbooks on a grander and grander scale - which is neat. The Android platform released, too. We've also seen further developments in hardware on various fronts, in processors, graphics, and not to mention storage.

A few new online games launched, a few more were announced, and a few more died off.

Just a few highlights of course as there has certainly been a huge amount more than that which has happened during the year. Yet, the coming year should prove to be pretty interesting. Technology will continue to develop, politics will likely prove to be worth watching, and the game industry has been... well, lets just go with interesting, again.

As for me, I'm hoping on moving across the country and getting myself a nice career going in this coming year.

Zii PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Honestly? I have no idea what to say. So, here's a link .

But, suffice to say, this isn't about the Wii, it is actually from Creative, and it is extremely odd sounding. Yet, I have to admit, it certainly takes advantage of my unhealthy level of curiosity. Thus, I have to wonder: what in the world could Stemcell Computing possibily be? You know, without somehow harnessing the power of stemcells as a CPU, because I'm going to assume that isn't actually the case.
