Husky Game Development Website PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Wednesday, 08 October 2008

The Husky Game Development website has had a long history of being fairly drab, useless, hard to update, hard to maintain, and horribly out of date. During my time at the Enterprise, I worked hard to change quite a bit within it. I revised how we handled documentation, I did what I could to start turning the internal idea of being a 'computer science enterprise' into a 'multi-discipline enterprise'. However, there was always one nagging issue that never got fixed, even after bringing aboard a webmaster: the website was just not so good. So, when I came back for my final semester, I was pleased to see a new team was being created: the web development team. Wasting no time, I volunteered to lead this new team to build a new, better, easier to maintain website. The main focus of the new site was in several areas:

  • Greater intigration and unification. There would be a single look for the entire website and there would be online one login that would be shared between the site, the forums, the wiki, and our file servers.
  • Easier to maintain. The site can be updated very easily now that we are using the Joomla! Content Management System, and anyone could do the updating, even with no prior web programming knowledge.
  • Greater internal use. We focused more heavily on maintaining a useful wiki, as well as other ways of sharing information and ideas within the enterprise through the website.
  • Greater external presence. Another major issue was our image to the outside. This new site was to bring in a new image that would hold the enterprise in a better light and for visitors to find more information about the enterprise easier than in the past.

The NWW PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Thursday, 21 August 2008

The NWW has been in existence since around early 2000, shortly after the announcement of Sony Online Entertainment's Star Wars Galaxies, as a group dedicated to helping new people to community gain important information and adjust to the social structure. We acted, largely, as an unofficial group of community representatives - although we were well embraced by the developers themselves as well.

While the NWW has never disbanded, with the announcement of BioWare's upcoming MMO, the group decided it was time for a new site and to begin active recruitment once again, with a new focus on producing web-based content. As a joint effort between myself and another member, a new site was created to achieve that purpose.

WarCry Network Sites PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Saturday, 31 March 2007

I was a site manager for the WarCry Network, a large game-centric media network, specifically working on the Vanguard and EVE Online websites. While it has been some time since WarCry has actually functioned as a true network of websites, much of the professionalism and use of content does remain the same. During my time at WarCry I was in charge of finding, creating, displaying, and managing all of the news and content found on those network sites, as well as managing a team to moderate forums, write columns, and track down news items.

Currently, WarCry no longer works as a true network of websites, but rather has evolved into a large news repository that covers numerous online games.
